St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is a joyful, welcoming, and active church community located in Wallingford, Connecticut. Through worship, service, and learning, we seek to love and support one another and our neighbors as we live out the teachings of Jesus Christ.
St. Paul’s seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and organized person to serve as our Director of Christian Education and Formation. This part-time staff person will be responsible for imagining and executing a unified educational program of Christian study and fellowship for children and youth.
With the support of the rector and members of the Christian Education Committee, the Director of Christian Education and Formation will:
Teach Church School classes of young children (approximately grades preK-5) every Sunday morning

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about sharing God’s love and teachings with children and youth. Both creative and organized, they will have the opportunity to imagine new ways to engage and grow our Church School community. Terms: This is a part-time position of approximately 10 hours per week, with the possibility to expand, to begin as soon as the position is filled. Although much work can be done from home, there is a dedicated work space available in the church. The director is required to be present on-site for Church School and the service from approximately 9 am to 11 am every Sunday. All staff members of the Episcopal churches are required to undergo professional background checks and complete Safe Church certification training (compensated).
Compensation: $20,000.00 (August 15th through June 15th).

St. Paul’s seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and organized person to serve as our Director of Christian Education and Formation. This part-time staff person will be responsible for imagining and executing a unified educational program of Christian study and fellowship for children and youth.
With the support of the rector and members of the Christian Education Committee, the Director of Christian Education and Formation will:
Teach Church School classes of young children (approximately grades preK-5) every Sunday morning
- As the program grows, the director will oversee volunteer teachers from the congregation and recruit, train, and support new teachers.
- Maintain organized, tidy, and inviting church school classrooms that reflect the lessons taught
- Plan and provide weekly Scripture-based lessons and materials
- Coordinate ordering of materials or writing of materials as necessary
- Maintain working knowledge of materials available

- Get to know and build relationships with our children and their families
- Organize and promote activities and events to increase attendance
- Help oversee children’s participation in the church service as well as annual events such as our annual potluck, parish fair, St. Nicholas festival, Shrove Tuesday, Easter and Easter Egg Hunt, and other holidays and celebrations.
- Use social media (Instagram and Facebook) to publicize events and engage with the broader community.
- Work with Christian educators at local Congregational and Baptist Churches to continue St. Paul’s involvement in an interdenominational youth group for middle school aged parishioners.
- Seek out additional opportunities to work with children and young adults at St. Paul’s as they grow beyond 5th grade, as well as adults who are interested in continuing their Christian education.
- Manage the educational budget needs and keep a check on money spent.
- Provide regular updates to the Vestry and an annual report on Christian education, as well as updates in the weekly bulletin, as needed.
